I tried to delete Windows Media 9 for OS X by dragging it into the trash can. When i go to empty the trash it will not empty Windows Media and a message appears saying "...filename... cannot be deleted because it is locked". and there are like 636 of these files. can anyone help me out please?

Select the file, click Command-I, and look just under the Color label in the pop-up. There should be check box that says "Locked". Uncheck the box. You should be able to delete the file after that.

That is one way of doing it but that would be tedious for 636 files. The quick and simple way to delete those files is to choose "Secure Empty Trash" from the Finder menu. That will delete anything that the standard empty trash chokes on.

Actually, the easiest way is to hold option down as you select Empty Trash. This will override the lock on the files.

True too, but not in all cases. Some stubborn files won't delete with the Option key.

If you are removing WMP don't forget to trash the "Windows Media Plugin"
located in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
