10.4, not trying to use iSync. I am using the .mac pref pane but when I click on the 'Sync' tab, I get an error message "There was a problem with the sync operation. .Mac login failed". I can click on the 'iDisk' tab and it correctly reports my usage. How can the login fail but still know how much space I've used?

I just want my contacts online. I thought this was supposed to be easy.

First of all, save backups of your Address Book and iCal databases (from the File menu in each, select the "Back up" option) and your Safari preferences, bookmarks etc. This is just a precaution in case you need to revert back if something goes wrong.

Next, under the System Preferences>.Mac>Advanced tab you can try resetting the sync information:

To reset sync information:
Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
Open System Preferences and click .Mac.
Click Advanced and then click Reset Sync Data.
Choose the information you want to reset, such as Bookmarks, Keychains, or all data, from the Replace pop-up menu.
Choose This Computer from the "on" pop-up menu to copy the information from your .Mac account to your computer. This replaces the information on your computer with the information on .Mac. Choose .Mac from the "on" pop-up menu to copy the information on your computer to your .Mac account. This replaces the information on .Mac with the information on your computer.

However, over the past week, Apple has been doing some maintenance on the .Mac servers. I don't know if it is related, but I am no longer able to access my iDisk other than through my browser. Maybe there are some other issues too.

Thanks for the instructions. I had already tried that but those options were not available, they were grey out. I tried this morning and the options were there so I did what you said.

I can't make sense of this, however I run backups to my iDisk nightly. Feb 11th was the last successful backup. Now, I can't sync at all.

Anyone else with this trouble - please?!!!!

I have been experiencing trouble with .Mac syncing / iSync / syncing in general for some time.

My problems have been negligible until about two days ago, when the problems exploded:

I am hoping that Leopard will introduce a LOT more stability with syncing all around. It is a great feature, but it has also been very troublesome.

Out of curiosity, have you ever noticed lost Address Book card information due to syncing? That is to say, not losing a masa amount of information, but particular entries, such as a single address or date, somehow mysteriously disappearing?
