When the CPU is being hogged by SOHO Notes, run a sample and see if anything remotely intelligible to you is returned (if not, e-mail the sample to the app developer with an explanation of what is happening to see if they can provide you with any pointers).

To run a sample, highlight the SOHO Notes process in Activity Monitor and choose Sample Process from the View menu. It will run for 10 seconds and show what threads are active at the time. You might be able to decipher something from them.

Using that much of the CPU isn't necessarily out of the ordinary and doesn't mean it's doing anything wrong - depending on the situation. Many apps will use a large amount of the CPU in given situations. If nothing else other than the OS is running, there's no reason for the system not to allocate more CPU cycles to an app that is active. When another app requires more cycles, it'll steal them from apps that have cycles available to give up.

Of course, I could be on crack.

Consistently using 98% of the CPU is not normal for a note taking application.
