I just got an external hard drive to use as a scratch disk for final cut. Mybook 500gig firewire. Since i started using it as a scratch disk it takes 15-20min until i can use the capture now. It says "Allocating Disk Space". I never had to problem before when i captured right to my HD. Im running 1.25ghz G4 Tower. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Try just copying to it / playing back from it. If you still have a problem - then I would guess a problem with the drive?

Good luck.
I have Mac

I found the problem, it was formatted for FAT32, which im guessing most external drives are formatted this way so you can take it from PC to MAC. Well FAT32 only supports eigher 2gb or 4gb of data at a time. I reformatted with the Mac disk utility program and it works great!
