I was wondering if ichat, running in Mac OS 10.4.8, will allow multiperson video conferences on a machine that meets the requirements, but with a 3rd party cpu upgrade, such as Sonnet, Gigadesign, etc.

Right now I have a dual 450Mhz PowerMac G4 (gigabit ethernet) with 576MB RAM. It has an upgraded ATI Radeon 8500 video card. Pretty soon I will be adding RAM to bring it up to a total of 1.5GB.

I am looking at upgrading the processor with PowerLogix dual 1GHz G4.

I am interested, as I said, in doing multiperson video conferences. I've read that ichat adjusts certain settings and makes certain features available based on hardware checks. Will it allow these features and settings with a 3rd party cpu that meets the requirements? Furthermore, if it does, can I expect to experience problems, and if so, how likely are the problems to occur.

A dual 1Ghz G4 is the minimum cpu required to "HOST" a multiperson video conference. But I have read about problems with 3rd party cpu's sometimes overheating and one article that said the solution is to UNDER clock them a bit.

That said, anyone familiar with the PowerLogix cpu upgrades, would you recommend I get the 1.3GHz cpu and then under clock it to 1Ghz, or do you think I'll be fine with the 1Ghz running at its intended speed?
