why does real player ask me to configure it everytime i open it? i agree and it leads to real player (no special configuration window, nothing).

also, why doesn;t the screen saver work while i'm playing music? even if it is minimized, it won't go on.

lastly, or perhaps i should start here, real player is a pain. are there any alternatives to it in OS X? (iTunes is not an option, thanks)

Probably becaue it can't write its preferences. Trash its preferences file and try again.

In your home folder (the house icon in the finder window's sidebar) --> Library/Preferences/com.RealNetworks.RealPlayer.plist

Some video players will block the system's ability to display a screen saver.

This is because generally, if you're watching a video, you're not mousing around. Often enough, the ****ing screensaver will come on in the middle of watching something on YouTube or in a QuickTime window.

I know having a film open in VLC will block the screen saver; I assume that having a file or stream open in RealPlayer will do the same.

Have you tried forcing the screen saver by using an active corner?
