Hello,

I am trying to setup a little control system for a set of Halloween haunted house events. In order to do that, I an looking for some software that can do these two things:

- Have a steady pulse be generated. This is something that would be able to trigger a relay that is somehow connected to the Mac (via USB ?). This would then start a fog machine. I need to be able to predetermine how long this pulse would be last.

- Have a second pulse generated but this one would be triggered by the intensity of an audio file. In other words, when the audio reaches a certain level, a pulse is generated. When it dips to a lower level, no pulse.

Would anyone know where I could find this?

Thank you very much for any help.

Bo

Look here:

The Mac Robotics Blog

You might find something. The creator of that site posts here on MacNN.

There's also a box like this one. I've controlled this box via Apple Script using curl. You can give it simple http requests to turn the relays on and off. It also has 8 digital inputs so that could be your sound level trigger. The only problem is the IP Power box is slow, it takes almost a half second to control via http.

There is also another company that does some nice control boxes but I can't remember them off had. They always have an ad in Mac Tech magazine. They have all the Obj C APIs and sample xCode projects it you want to take a longer route. I'll try to remember to look it up when I get home and post the link.

Thanks very much for all the good suggestions. nerd, these are intriguing options to be sure.

One other option I amd currently looking at is to generate teh pulse manually in Garage band, based on a particular soundtrack and then output both to an 8 channel audio device. It seemed like an easy enough project at first but there is clearly no easy and/or cheap solution to it so far. I'll let you know what I come up with.
