A friend at work brought me a DVD that will play in her computer, but not in her DVD player. We checked it and it appears to be an MPEG2 format (files are Video_TS and Audio_TS). Really don't know what format it needs to be in to play in her player. Just wondering, though, if anyone knows what software I could use to make it playable in her player? I have the usual, iMovie, iDVD, Toast 8, Mac the Ripper, Handbrake, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

If it's encoded as Video DVD it should be playable anywhere. What kind of media is she using? DVD+R may not play in certain players. I would copy the VOB(s) to disk and burn again with Toast using DVD-R. Do that and I'd be surprised if it wouldn't play properly in a regular player.

If it's not from the US or Japan, it's probably PAL. Computers don't care about PAL/NTSC, but set top players (and TVs) do. If it's home-made it might have the wrong file system on the disc (another thing computers often don't care about).

A very common mistake is to burn a DVD as a data disc rather than Video DVD (which has a very specific file structure that a DVD player is looking for.) These will usually play on a computer (which only cares that the files themselves are MPEG-2) , but not on a DVD player. The only fix is to copy the complete VIDEO_TS folder to your hard disc and then re-burn it using something like Toast and double-checking that you've selected the DVD-Video format.

I would try with vlc player. If this doesn't work it has a problem. I say vlc because this will clearly solve your codec problem.
Like Spoffo says, alot of people burn the DVDs as data disc. The DVD must have their image burned, not the files.

Overall I think this is not your problem, I think you should return it for a refund or a new working DVD.
