Hi, I recently made backups of some of my favorite movies and created .DMG files onto the desktop. However, I did not know that they were more than 4GB, instead, they were at least 8GB.

So I tried searching for some answers to see if I could fit it on a 4GB and most of the results came up were for Windows.

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about perhaps converting these DMG files or some kind of solution so that I won't have to delete the DMG files and start all over again?

Thanks.

Try dvd2one.
It's fast and I think it works on intel based macs as well. Not sure though.

Did you rip them from DVDs? If so, the discs were more-than-likely dual-layer discs. These support up to around 9.4GB of data each.

If this is the case, just look for DVD-R DL discs, and you should be fine.

Good luck,

Not if his burner doesn't support dual-layer discs, he won't.

You can try DVD2one, Toast 7 or 8, or Popcorn.

Or any transcoder that supports MPEG-2/DVD, which I think includes the free ffmpegx (although I could be wrong)

That's why I asked if he had ripped them from DVDs, because if his drive could read the DL discs, it would most probably be able to burn them, too.

The DVD compression (8GB-->4GB) part requires you pay the $15 registration fee. Other than one more thing, the rest's free, yes.

This is not exactly the case. I know many, many DVD burners that can read, but not write to, DL DVDs.

DVDRemaster does a splendid job of transcoding those hefty 8Gb Video_TS files down to fit a standard DVD 4.7 Gb disk. You'll be hard pressed to see or hear any difference.

The Pro version allows you to edit the titles , among other things. $ 50.00....use it twice to back up a movie DVD and the third time it's paid for...

Why would you pay $50 for this program when you can get ffmpegX for $15?

I thought ffmpegX was free? Well, the version I've been using for the past year certainly has been, anyway.

Well, it's not freeware, it's shareware: it's simply not limited in functionality... EXCEPT for the DVD 8Gb-->4GB realm. That requires you to pay the mo-nay.

All DVD readers and recorders are able to read DVD DL discs, it's part of the DVD spec. But certainly not all DVD recorders can burn DVD DL.
