Does anyone know of software that will read a used DVD movie disk and check it for errors without having to watch the movie?

A lot of used movies have scratches, etc., that cause problems when viewing, but I don't necessarily want to take the time to watch the movie right away to find out. A tool that can read it at full speed and do some sort of verification would be great.
