I have a question. If I purchase an iWork 06 now and the 07 version is released within 1 or 2 months, do I receive a discounted or free upgrade? Thank you.

I heard a rumor that it would be part of Leopard.

If you buy something from apple and 2 weeks or less later they release something new, aka iLife 06 then 1 week alter iLife 07 comes out, you can get the new one for the price difference. For instance, if you got an 80 gig iPod 5g now for $350 at an apple store, and tomorrow they surprised us with iPod 6gs at all Apple stores for $375, you could trade in your iPod 5G and an extra $25 for a new iPod 6g. However, if it comes out at day 15+, your screwed.

That, or require Leopard.

Hopefully it won't require Leopard. Apple is expecting us to go out buying new Macs every month, are they?

I'm 90% sure it'll require Leopard. Else they would have announced it by now.

If included with Leopard, then will probably require Leopard.
If not included, won't require Leopard.
I am hoping it is included and that they make it easier to use for more people. I really like Pages but you have to spend time with it to understand and focus on styles, etc. When I show it to others, you generally hear crickets and get that glazed over look. Not usual reactions for an Apple app.

They may have not just announced something yet because they're not ready to announce it until the WWDC. Did anyone think of that?

Why would they announce consumer apps at a developer conference?

I seriously doubt it will be included with 10.5, but it might require 10.5 (CoreAnimation, etc).

There will most likely be a trial for iWork that comes with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard like they did with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. It is a much better strategy to sell software than having to buy it in a seperate box.

Not sure what version you had purchased (10.4, 10.4.3, 10.4.6), but the latter 2 at least came with a trial DVD. I know because I have them both, and the disc says TRIAL on it.

iWork will not be part of an OS release (although it may require one, and a demo will be included as it has on all new Macs and OS copies since it was finalized). iLife will come with new Macs, but not with new OS purchases, where an update purchase will be expected.
Bad as that might seem, it's still a much better deal than the opposite side of the fence: buy Vista, buy Office, buy whatever you can find to replace iLife.

Unlike Vista, you don't need a new computer to run Leopard. It would make sense if it only supports Leopard due to the new technologies in Leopard that aren't a part of Tiger. I do think though that it probably will run on 10.4.9 Macs, just like iLife '06 works on 10.3.9.
