I like my transparent dock but I seem to have only two options Transparent dock - a great apple script but only runs on PPC and is not compatible with 10.4.9- so this is out. My other and seemingly only option is clear dock from insanity - but I need to install APE which I'm not to happy about. Are there any other alternatives?

No, those are your only options. Don't be afraid of APE and Clear Dock, it's awesome.

really, ape is fine.
i've used cleardock (actually, transparent dock currently; powerbook, 10.4.9).
but i find fruitmenu and shapeshifter essential.

have been using these apps since 10.2.something, and all is well...

at any rate, try cleardock; you can always unistall...

I'm using TransparentDock on my iBook G4 with 10.4.9 and it appears to be working just fine, which is strange because usually I have to wait for an upgrade after every new OS upgrade.

yeah, for me as well...transparent dock worked without needing an update (when i moved to 10.4.9).
the developer fixed it so he would not have to update with every new os x version.
