I'm new to Mail. Most recently I've been using web-based Gmail and I'd like to switch to Mail because of its Daylite 3 integration.

I subscribe to a number of email lists that I cannot read everyday - I usually catch up on these lists every few days. However, I do not want to wade through these emails to see other important emails in my inbox. I cannot seem to clean my inbox of these listserv mails, no matter what rules I define using smart mailboxes. Am I missing something? Is it much more difficult to have a clean inox using Mail than when using other mail applications, such as Thunderbird?

In Gmail I set up various labels and rules which applied a label and archieved incoming email as I defined. This greatly decreased the number of emails I'd see in my inbox.

Please, help me obtain a relatively clean inbox. Thanks...

Yes, you are missing something. Smart mailboxes are not actual boxes. They are saved search results. So when you create one for all your mailinglist mails it will display all those mails it found in your inbox, but the messages will stay there. You need to create an old-school non -smart mailbox (either on the server or on your computer) for your mailinglist mails and create a rule that moves the appropriate messages there.
