Hi, I have just installed an iMac DV with Tiger, updates and applications.

Now I want to use "carbon copy cloner" to make an exact image of this machine, so I can install many more imacs before sending them off to projects in the 3rd world.

Carbon copy cloner can't make an image of a mounted image over TCP/IP or appletalk, so I need to start up the imac in targetdisk-mode (firewire).

However, the previous owner set a firmware password and probably prevented any of his imacs to be exploied by the tagetdiskmodus. The imac previously ran over netboot.

How can I fix this ? I don't think i can unscrew the imac's harddisk and build in my powermac and make a clone there, or can I ?

Try Apple's Software Restore function. It allows network mounted volumes as a source. Mount the iMac's partition through AppleTalk (Finder > Go > Connect to Server...) on a second Mac. Then launch DiskUtility on that second Mac and make the image.

/Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility > Restore

I think if you just change the RAM configuration (pull some out or put some in) that resets the OF password.
