Ok here it goes this is my first posting in any forum so bare with me. I own a PowerBook G4 and have loved using it for the past 2.5 years. I have been using bit torrents for the past three months, so I am a begginer. I have been using Transmission and Tomato Torrent and have been somewhat satisfied with them, but I recently found Azureus and installed it onto my computer. I really like this torrent manager, but as I was looking around the interface I realised that my personal name was being used as a file extension becuase that was the identity of my computer. So I thought I should change that identity in the System Preferences. With me being the Admin I was permitted to do so, I changed my name and felt pretty good about my savy. Well not so savy really because when I went to open my address book all my contacts were gone... what the @#$%! I was now a new user and my previous idenity was not there anymore. Can anyone please help me restore my original settings. All my data is still there on my hard drive under the users folder put I can't figure out how to restore this as the principle users settings. I have to get all my old setting back, everything is affected, iPhoto, iTunes, iCalender. Hours of work. Please help this ignorant fool.

Did you change your username? If so, you should be able to change it back to get your files back. Then, just make a new user and transfer all your stuff over to that if you need a new user name. But I've never seen Azureus do what you're describing. Could you be more specific?

So what your saying is that all I need to do is take the original files and put them into the new user account I have created for myself? And the Azureus thing is that I thought that the file extension for the down and up load file would include the tag of the file which included my identity. I am not sure if this is seen by the other users, just paranoid of big brother. Thanks for the post back.

Do I need to transfer the original user files to another hard drive (external) and then put them into the new user once I have erased my hard drive on my laptop?

You don't need to erase anything.
First, can you figure out whether your files are still there? Is there a large folder in /Users that corresponds to your pre-Azureus-disaster configuration?
Once you figure that out, it should be a simple matter of creating a temporary administrative user, and from that account, renaming the appropriate directories in /Users. In other words:
1) Create a new user with administrative privileges, log in as that user.
2) Rename the new accidentally created home directory /Users/mynewidentity to /Users/mynewidentity.tmp
3) Rename the old real user directory /Users/myrealidentity to /Users/mynewidentity
4) Do a 'get info' on /Users/mynewidentity, under 'ownership and details', go to 'details', click the little lock icon, and set owner and group both to mynewidentity. Click the 'Apply to enclosed items' button after that.
5) Log out, and then log back in as mynewidentity. Your files should be back.
Obviously, I'm using myrealidentity and mynewidentity as placeholders for the respective usernames you used on your system.
Finally, to anonymac who has made a number of similarly insightful comments in other technical threads: save it for the community boards, okay? People come here for technical advice, not your asinine commentary.

Alright back to my files, but all my settings are gone. and then when I try to open iTunes it gives me this message: The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder. And sure enough it is there but will not iTunes will not open with this new identity and priviledges. What gives? If you can help that would be appreciated.
