Many people know here that Google Desktop installs itself to be run by root, or a deep system level. After finding that Indexing was taking a days on my MBP (and significantly slowing it down through un-cooperatively hogging the CPU), I uninstalled it with the uninstaller provided (and asked it to remove the indicies). After doing this I noticed that my fan came on when I was just typing a document. Pulling up Activity Monitor, I found that GoogleDesktopDae was still running at full force. Of course I then quit the process, but it was disconcerting that the software was said to be uninstalled with this still running. I'm sure a restart would've taken care of this, but it simply casts doubt about how the company implemented it. Others here have taken issue with the program's default ability to index deleted files, which I suppose could have a good use at time. I just thought that it might make sense to see what others' thoughts are on this app.

I'm not sure forgetting to kill a running process qualifies as "invasiveness."

Heh, well, that was just one example. It's ability to significantly bog down a reasonably powerful machine by hogging resources, installing as root and scanning deleted files were a few other examples in my message. When Google tells you that it has uninstalled the program, it would be assumed that no more processes continue to run.

Most software uninstalls leave their daemons running until a restart, probably so there is no chance of data loss.

I found the daemon to only use idle CPU time.

Spotlight hogs CPU as it indexes also, you just probably don't notice it because it's already indexed the system after you first installed OS X.

I agree that this is how it should work, however, in my situation, it highly bogged down the machine for days. I did restart a few times to see if that would fix the priority situation, although it didn't. Perhaps it's just a bug that caused this, but I'm probably not the only one to experience this issue.

I've found Dashboard to be highly invasive as well ... it also bogs down my system and is also difficult to close and remove.

While on the topic of Google conspiracy theories, weren't there a number of stories about 6 months (or maybe a little longer) back about Google and search results/personal data? On an entirely unrelated note (...or is it??) every time I go to Google it tells me I'm logged in and I can't for the life of me seem to log out.

...ya, I managed to figure that one out on my own. It doesn't work though.
