I purchased a MacBook Pro a little over a year ago , then a few months ago I purchased AppleCare Protection Plan (directly at an Apple Store ), then today tried to register the AppleCare Protection Plan and got an error message that my product was out of warranty .

It is late tonight now (too late to call Apple store or support ), so I am wondering if anyone knows why this problem might be happening -- after all when I bought the AppleCare Protection Plan, I was told that as long as I PURCHASED the AppleCare Protection Plan within 1 year of the original date of buying the MacBook Pro, that everything was fine ... which I did . I did however, wait until today to do an online registration, and it was a couple months ago that I bought the AppleCare Protection Plan.

It looks like the software online that takes the MacBook Pro serial number doesn't consider that the AppleCare Protection Plan might have been purchased a few days before beginning the registration process.

Anyone experienced in this? Any suggestions? My notion is to call Apple support and have them review the situation . It is, of course, frustrating to be told one thing by Apple salespersons in their store, only to run into problems . Perhaps this is a problem that can be easily righted, but with such an apparently professional organization it seems unusual to see an oversight like this .

I suppose one bureaucracy is little different from another bureaucracy?

Thanks

You were supposed to register it before your warranty expired.

If you purchased the retail box within the warranty period Apple will surely help you register it. Call 800SOSAPPL. I hope you have the receipt to verify the date of purchase, or else they may make it harder for you.

The error made was actually yours -- you need to explicitly register the machine with AppleCare. There's a spot for agreement #, and for machine #, and you need to go to Apple's web site and register this.

As the others have said, if you have proof of purchase maybe they can find a way to help you out.

This won't be a big deal - if you purchased Applecare but did not register it they will most likely still honor it.

I think you need a few more emoticons in your post before anyone will take you serious

As others have said, since it was your responsibility to register it and failed apple is under no compulsion to honor your extended warranty. What you need to do is show them that you purchased both at the same time and then maybe (no guarantee) they may honor it.

I have registered quite a number of AppleCare plans after the fact, and it is an annoying procedure, but you can get AppleCare to post-register (at least for higher-ed institutions). You call the AppleCare line and ask for "the agreement admin". You will need to fax in the reciept (unless Apple has a record of the sale already). Do note that it can take a couple of weeks to get all the paperwork thorugh.
