I own a blog which is run by Wordpress. I like to use Safari as my main browser for everything. I have always noticed that there are not as many features in Wordpress when I'm using Safari as there are when I am using another browser (Camino or Firefox). Is there some way to make Safari work correctly with Wordpress?

Thanks,
Mason

WordPress currently turns some features off when it senses Safari. You can change that, and somewhere on the WordPress site it tells you how, but I can't seem to find it.

I'm aware that you can use the "quick tags" feature but the interface is not the same. Look here.

This is what Wordpress looks like in Camino when I'm editing an article:

The TinyMCE WYSIWYG toolbar is disabled within Safari because of Safari bugs which apparently have been fixed in the latest nightly builds of Safari. You can enable TinyMCE under WordPress, but there is little point because it doesn't work properly. Blame Apple.

Thanks for the information on Safari. I can only hope that Apple will fix Safari with Leopard.

Questions on applications belong in the Applications forum.

Should be out sooner, whenever the next Safari update hits Software Update. It's already been fixed in the nightly builds.

Have you thought about running the nightly Safari builds?

I've run the nightly build, but for some reason I get the same problem. The TinyMCE WYSIWYG shows up differently in the nightly builds than in Camino or Firefox. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Not exactly, but there is still a directive to ignore Safari that you will need to disable. It is a part of the standard TinyMCE API. Have you done this?

How do I disable that? Also look at my reply where I give two links to images of what Wordpress looks like in two different browsers.

grep the following text:

browsers : "msie,gecko"
(or variants of this to account for different whitespace patterns). If you don't want to go this far, use Firefox.

We've explained why WordPress is different in Safari, no?

I can't "grep" anything because I own a ".wordpress" blog. I'm pretty sure that I would need a Wordpress site to have access to that. Am I right?

You would need writable access to the WordPress source code, which you won't have. Your only choice is to use Firefox. You *might* try installing Safari Enhancer and changing your user agent to Firefox with one of the Safari nightlies, but that's a long shot - I'd be surprised if that worked.

By adding the Debug menu by typing in Terminal : "defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1", I was able to change the user agent and get it to work. The only problem with this is that when I try and resize an image in a post, it won't work. Do you know why this is?

No, but I wouldn't recommend resizing an image that way in any browser. I believe all you are doing by dragging the edges of an image is changing the image tag dimensions, not actually resizing the image. Therefore, your image will be distorted and of a much poorer quality than it would if you resized it in an application that properly recreates pixel data (e.g. Photoshop, Graphic Converter, GIMP, etc.).

WordPress doesn't actually support image manipulation beyond its automatic thumbnail creation using the ImageMagick libraries.

Thanks for your help. It's easiest for me to just stick to using Camino for my Wordpress blog and Safari for everything else.
