No viruses exist on the platform at this time, if that's what you're asking.

The answer is yes and no. Just the same as it is for any download - there is the potential risk that the download is malware of some description (e.g. a script to wipe your home directory), but torrents have legitimate uses for software distribution by reputable developers as well.

Not only virus wise, but sometimes when you install apps like that it slows down the computer.

Torrents aka mininova[org], piratebay[org] are very reputable and I recommend. I would not use limewire or any sh!t program like that.

Good luck. Im not endorsing any of this though

If simply installing a program slows down your computer, there's a problem with that program. I would not choose Limewire, but P2P isn't inherently problematic, aside from generally sucking. As others have said, though, Bittorrent is where P2P is at these days.

I will just stick to messing up my Windows desktop. It already has enough problems. LOL

"Safe site" in the sense that your computer doesn't explode the minute you go there? Yes. "Safe site" in the sense that I can guarantee there could absolutely never be anything harmful to download there? No, and no to any other site you're wondering about in the future. Unless a site is just really blatantly retarded, "Is this a safe site?" isn't really an answerable question.

I don't like things like Limewire on ANY platform. Not because I think the applications themselves are problems, but because you have to trust the individual who creates the torrent in the first place. And since most of what shows up in torrents is (lets' face it) pirated, how can you trust that the pirate is not also doing something in the hopes of trashing someone's computer? Even if the downloads can't really hurt your Mac, spending the time and bandwidth to download something that won't work because someone has horked it over does not interest me.

Frankly, most torrents are legit (in the sense of being what they claim), and pretty much all torrent sites allow comments so you can see if somebody's messing with you.

(Note to the high horses 'round here: I generally use Bittorrent to get things that aren't available in America or for stuff that's free anyway, not to screw anyone out of their due.)
