Hello all,

Got 2 iPods here - one set up to automatically update (60GB) and the other set to manually manage music (nano). I've noticed for a while that some tracks are 'empty' every now and then in my iTunes library, but never figured out why - it seemed to be high rated tracks. Now I've just discovered that every single one of the tracks that are empty or missing in iTunes are the ones that are on my nano!

I used Senuti to reimport the tracks, but I'm concerned this is going to keep happening. With 50GB of music, I wouldn't necessarily notice this for weeks, unless I'm looking for a particular track.

Is this a bug or WAD? If you drag a playlist from your library to your (manually managed) iPod, is it supposed to delete the songs from your harddrive? Seems odd to me

Using 10.4.9 and iTunes 7.1.1, thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "empty tracks", but i had a similar problem just recently, where iTunes would not display any songs/videos at all. I checked the music folder to make sure all of the songs were there, and i also checked the database file to see if it still had the same information. I then just downloaded itunes and installed it on top of itself. Everything worked fine after that.

I tried the reinstall, but no joy. Thanks for the answer though

The problem is since then things have escalated to the point where my library is 10GB smaller than it used to be, and I've realised that the problem is not confined to songs on the nano.

I'm a person who likes real CDs, so at least I have full back up potentially, though it will mean taking some boxes out of the garage and chasing up people I loaned CDs to.

But it's so random - why would some songs go missing and not others - it's not limited to one album for example, sometimes an entire album will go missing and at other times it will be one song from an album.

Is there any messy software that could be causing this? I use legit versions of Photoshop etc (as my credit card still reminds me), I use a lot of legit shareware programs such as those featured on MacZot. I have again a legit copy of Tidy Up, and the freeware/donationware Senuti. I haven't run Tidy Up in months though - I thought that may have been the culprit through some mis-click of my own.

If you made it this far down the page, thank you! I'm a bit blearly eyed with tiredness so I hope it makes sense. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

PS the songs that are 'empty' tracks are deleted from the HD, not just from the iTunes library.
