MS Word 2004 crashes - spinning beachball

MS word crashes when I use the scroll bar on the right hand side. I just get a spinning beachball and have to force quit because it is not responding. Any ideas? It is Word 2004, version 11.3 and I installed all the update on 25-April. Computer is a MacBook OSX 10.4.9.
