The Challenge: Resolve iChat's Communication Errors
Reward: $500
We will pay $500 if anybody can provide us with a workaround or a solution to the now-frequent iChat's Communication Error messages when attempting to establish a video conference session.
We have been trying to recreate the error through a lot of testing to determine whether it is a design flaw inherent with Apple's implementation of SIP, an issue with network routing/firewall setup or physical hardware differences (ie: PPC vs Intel computer seems to behave differently with iChat).
Right now we have all Macs sitting on the outside network with their own static IP’s to minimize any iChat troubles.
Essentially, the Communication Errors (-8 and -20), the sniff packets sometimes show that both computers think they are the “inviter”, awaiting reply from the other, as if there is some sort of loopback. In the sniff logs sometimes you will see the external IP of the computer being video-invited change into an internal IP (ie: 192.168.0.100)!
We are aware that the Communication Error sometimes has to do with insufficient bandwidth and/or loss of data so please don't include this issue into your testings.
