For some reason, I cannot get the Flip4Mac WMV plugin to play back WMV files within Safari, i.e. without opening Quicktime Player. Every time I surf to a page with an embedded WMV video, the space on the website where the video should be stays empty and instead, Quicktime Player launches and plays back the video in a separate window.
It doesn't make a difference if the "Launch Quicktime Player" preference in the Flip4Mac system preference panel is checked or not. I have also tried deleting the net.telestream... preference files and updated to the current beta release of Flip4Mac, but that didn't change anything, either.
However, the plugin works just fine in Camino.
Does anyone know a solution?

I have noticed that with Firefox and .asf files. I really do not care whether the file is playing embedded in the page or in an external window as long as it plays.

Please post the address where you're having the problem. My prefs do NOT have the "launch QT Player" checked. Under the Plug In tab, I only have "maintain aspect ratio" enabled and under the Movie tab, "open AVI files".
If the content is an authentic, supported WMV, then Flip4Mac will play it fine, but some content can consist of a weird codec, wrapped in a WMV, and those may fail playback.
Send the link and I'll check it out. Also, provide any other details about your model Mac, system version, etc. And, one more thing; go to the following link and let me know if this plays. It's a good test to see if your F4M is functioning.

That was interesting. It was embedded.

I assume you're talking about the video as being interesting....quite, eh? Amazing, actually. What a photographic memory that guy has.
Anyway, if you were able to view that content, it appears that your Flip4Mac is working ok, and the other problem might be a format issue with whatever it was. You can post the link if you want me to see if it plays on my system.

I do not remember where the .asf file was. It did not play embedded, but I got an external QT window playing it. I really do not care, as long as the thing plays.

I encountered the exact same problem on my PowerBook G4. WMV files always launched the Quicktime application instead of playing in the browser. The following worked for me.
1) In the Finder go to /Library/PreferencePanes
2) You should find there: Flip4Mac WMV.prefPane
3) Double-click this to launch the Flip4Mac preferences
4) Uncheck "Launch Quicktime Player"
5) Quit the application
Despite unchecking this box using the system preferences utility, it would not work. When I launched the application as described above the box was checked. Unchecking it in this method seemed to do the trick. My suspicion is that it has something to do with system versus user preferences. Hope this works for you.
