i have never really gotten into automator, but...
i want to be able to open an image (say, a jpg) in photoshop (cs2), then save it as a .psd file, then quit photoshop.

any ideas, anyone?

Photoshop has a really good scripting tool for stuff like this. If you click on Window, then Actions (option F9), a window will pop up with various scripts that are pre-made. I usually just make my own- just hit the create new action button at the bottom of the window, name it, and then do whatever you want (save the file as a psd), then close it, then hit the stop button in the actions pallet. If you have a TON of things to do, from there you can hit File>Automate>Create Droplet, and create a droplet in any folder and set it to use the action that you just created. From there all you need to do is drop the images you need changed in that way on that icon, and WHOOOSH- as fast as your computer can crunch it, it will happen.

i should really learn more about some of my apps!
will check that out.

but was hoping to select an image, click a script, THEN have that image open in photoshop, save itself as a psd, then close the app.

do-able?

Aside from doing it with PS actions/droplets, if you want to do the Automator route (i.e. combining with other workflow options), there are a few actions that will do it:
Automator World > Photoshop
