I switched from PC to Mac around 8 months ago. I do a lot of digital photography and often take these pictures in 5mp size. Sometimes I end up wanting them at that size if I do a special project but frequently I end up making them smaller.
On Windows there was a Windows XP powertoy called Image Resizer. It added a option that if you right clicked on a picture you could change it to 1024*768, 800*600, or 640*400 and I often chose the smallest option.
How can I go about doing this on the Mac? I sometimes do a batch resizing of 100 pictures at once so I want something easy. I thought it would be built into iphoto but I can't find it.

You have several options...

1. Create an Automator workflow. (Scale Images is what you want) and save it as a Finder plug in. Then you can right click and access the workflow in Finder.

2. GraphicConverter, this is shareware, but it has pretty good batch processing options.

Here's a screen capture of how to do this in Automator. Note, selecting the Show Action when Run option for each step causes the Workflow to prompt you for e.g. the destination and scale you want for each file.

N.B. Capture is ~5MB in size.

Also, you can do this in iPhoto by choosing "Export" from the "Share" menu. The dialog box that appears will allow you to scale the images down if you'd like.

Right on, JKT. It's repetitive tasks like that where Automator really shines.
