I use both Safari and Firebox browsers. I have imported all my existing bookmarks from Safari into Firefox. The problem I am having is every time I add a new bookmark to Safari it does not automatically import into Firefox. When I go to Firefox and ask to import Safari bookmarks again it will import a whole new set of bookmarks resulting in doubling up rather than just adding the newly installed bookmark from Safari.
I end up having to manually delete all of my Firefox bookmarks and re-import from Safari just to add the new one.
Anyone please enlighten me of a trick to get around this? Thanks much!

I've been wanting this feature of importing one bookmark at a time ever since there were alternatives to IE. Currently I don't think there is a way to do it so I just do what you do by importing everything and deleting the previous set of bookmarks. I don't think there are enough people who use more than one browser on a daily basis to make this feature a priority.

Maybe if enough of us request this feature at the Firefox forums then we might just get this feature in newer versions of browsers. I'm hoping I'm wrong though and there is a way to do what you are requesting.

It really is doing exactly as advertised. What you are doing is importing Safari into Firefox. What you want is syncing Safari and Firefox. There are several utilities that sync the same browser over different computers, desktop and laptop for instance. But I don't know of any sync utilities that work with different browsers.

Thanks for your help from both of you. I will take both of your suggestions. I didn't know there was a Firefox forum, I will check that out and I will search for syncing between different browsers because I think that would be something everyone could use. The issue is some websites don't work well on Safari which forces me to use alternatives.
Just a word of note, it's not happening to just us Mac users. I tired out my friend's new Vista notebook and I.E7 has trouble playing videos on Cnet.com. We had to download Firefox and it worked perfectly. Even worse Vista wouldn't let I.E7 install the latest version of Flash, but that's a different story for another forum.

That's why I use Firefox as my main browser instead of Safari. I've noticed Firefox works with most of the websites I visit when I use either Mac or PC. I don't hate Safari but Firefox just works better for me. Camino is also a nice alternative browser made exclusively for Mac.

I like using alternative browsers just to see what's out there and to see if I'm missing anything, but for the most part Firefox works for me so it's not like it's a huge pain if I can't sync up my bookmarks. It does make it so much more convenient to test out the other browsers though if I had the bookmarks synced up regularly.

everyday software : bookit

You do have to run it manually, however.

You can use Bookdog to do this and much more. Try Versiontracker -- Bookdog 4.2.2 – Mac OS X – VersionTracker
