Some software installations leave a disc image on your desktop.

I put them in a folder, and there they sit.

Can I erase them (is the necessary info in the applications folder?) or would I disable the software doing that?

What's the function of those disc images?

Thanks!

Disk images are a format for distributing apps. If you've copied the apps into your Applications folder, the disk image can simply be thrown away.
