As a noob to all things mac I am trying to rip some of my DVD collection to an external disc attached to my new macbook. On my pc I used a util called DVD Shrink.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best method of doing this (ie, getting the audio_ts/video_ts files) with OS X?
Also, once i have these files is it just a matter of inserting a blank dvd and then burning the resulting files across as I used to do with windows?

Search the forum and ye shall find, or Google for that matter...
I occassionally use "Mac The Ripper" for DVD backups, but mostly use "Handbrake" to port my DVDs to my iPod, there's loads of software out there, have a play and see what you like?

I used to use DVDRemaster, but then they started charging for it.

Mac the Ripper - you can then just burn the resulting files as an image.

Yes, but if he has a dual layer disc and wants to put it on a single layer, he'll need something like Popcorn or Toast which can reencode a DVD video.

when I switched I had the same frustration - finding mac equivalents for my windows apps.
I use MacTheRipper to rip the DVD (full/movie only/etc...) to my HDD, then use DVD2OneX to compress these files into DVD5 compatible IMG file that I can then burn to DVD with Toast. It adds an extra step, but it's really not that bad at all.

Does dvd2onex tend to do a better job compressing it quality-wise? Just wondering why someone would use toast instead, and vice versa.
