is 25 minutes a long render time for 7 or so minutes of HD video? it has to be. which brings me to my next question what is A. wrong or B. what can i get to speed the process up?

i have a raid 0 with two hitachi drives 500gb, set up with apples raid. and its about 3/5 full. 400gb or so left on the drive. is the fullness of the drive causing a slower render? should i only have one projects worth of clips on the scratch ata time? and the rest on the back up drive? the raid has been moved from external to internal, maybe a defrag and setting up the raid from scratch might help with less data on it? i could stab in the dark for hours.

im running a mac pro 2.66 with 2gb of ram, and FCE 3.5.1

No, 25 minutes is completely acceptable.

I've had 40 hours of render time for 32 minutes previously. The set up was a bit complex however, as there were 15 layers of HDV.
