I have a ripped DVD that I need to watch ASAP, but Quicktime isn't working with me. This is the first time I'm using the program, so I can't quite say if it has ever worked.

The problem is that whenever I start the movie, there's just a white screen without sound, though the clock is ticking and the length seems right.

This is what the info window says:

512 x 384, Unknown
MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48,000 kHz

The first time I tried to watch it, Quicktime said I needed some unspecified component and lead me to some Xvid downloads, which I got and installed as istructed, to no results.

Is there something to be done?

Thanks!

What video codec did you rip the DVD into? I find that using Handbrake to rip into MPEG-4 H.264 with AAC works perfectly with QuickTime out of the box.

If you used some obscure codec for unknown reasons, try installing Perian (I would trash the Xvid codecs beforehand to avoid incompatibilities). Or use VLC media player.

An avalanch of gratitude to you, that Perian thing did the job!

In case anyone cares (WARNING: not very interesting); I never had the DVD, and the rip's kinda (as in totally) illegal. It's a programme I would've watched yesterday had the TiVo-like apparatus not decided to delete it. I'm just watching it once or twice and then trashing it.

Thanks once more!
