I use SeaMonkey as my primary browser for a couple of reasons. I would like to move away from it because it is very slow sometimes, and a huge resource hog. Can anyone help me to find something that has the two things I love?
1. Only one url bar / search box. If you want to type a url, type it, and press enter. If you want to search, enter it in the same place, press down arrow, then enter. Easy.
2. Only one tab close icon. Always in the same place, on the far right, and closes the currently active tab. Not one for each tab.

These are just personal things that I find work for me, and the lack of them annoy me in other browsers. I feel like there may be pluggins or something for other browsers to emulate this?
Thanks!

Search for a Firefox/Mozilla add-on that will do this. This is probably your best bet.

Thanks - I've had a look, but had no luck. Was wondering if anyone knew of one. I don't even know what these behaviors are called, and am having trouble searching for them.

Will tab-mix plus do what you want with your tabs? It has a ton of configuration options.

How does your down arrow search thing work with URL autofill?

Thanks, I'll take a look at that.
Arrow down search works this way: I type 'f', and get a dropdown with all the autofill options I used lately, eg forums.macnn.cometc., ftc.gov, and others, plus 'search google for "f"'. Of course, I can set google to another search if I want. And so on, as I type. It's very cool.

Great - I got the tab behavior working right with that - sweet! Now just the search-bars... Any more tips would be welcome! Thanks!

You need to modify your behaviour a little but create and use some search shortcuts - I think Firefox does this as well, but I'm speaking from an OmniWeb perspective here. To search google from the URL field, I just have to type google XXXX; for macupdate.com, I type mu XXXX; vt XXXX for versiontracker.com; imdb XXXX for the Internet Movie Database; and so on (where XXXX = the search string).

The shortcuts are user definable so I could just as easily change google to g to be my shortcut.

You do realize that in Firefox if you just type a search string in the address bar, it will do a Google "feeling lucky" search on that phrase, right?

I did not know that, can I get it to do a full search instead of a 'feeling lucky' search? I really want to get rid of the two separate search bars, that seems a step backwards in functionality to me.

What happens if there is more than one Autofill choice, do you have to scroll down past all the choices in Seamonkey?

If so, wouldn't a simple tab before typing in your search work just as well?

I guess so, but that never happens to me, the one I want is always the first one, after I type one, or at most two characters. It sounds odd, I know, but having to decide whether I am going to type the name of a website or a search term and go to the right box before I begin typing is just counter-intuitive to me now that I am used to doing it the easy way.
