This might sound dumb, but I just had Comcast hook up a digital voice modem in my house. The only problem is I don't have a phone! HA!!

I was hoping that I could download a freeware program for my mac that would enable me to use my mac as a phone and use my bluetooth headset.

My search is mind numbing... I keep finidning VOIP programs to download and sign up for but I already have a phone number etc! I found "Talk Free" but I don't think that is what I am looking for.

Can anyone help with a recommended application to download?

Thanks in advance!

Ross

Skype is probably the best program out there.

Can you configure skype to just use it as a normal phone...ie using my own phone number? Without using thier service?

No. You have to pay a fee for a phone number. But Skype can fully replace a phone. If you want full phone functionality, then there is no free solution.

I found out some information through some research. I guess mac droped voice capablity in thier modems since they relased thier G4 models way back. So I assume software for a type of progam I am looking for is going to be lacking or hard to find. Even though I have a vocie capable modem now from comcast I am not sure what program to download or where to find one. I know there has to be similiar people in my boat.

Just need a typical no frills phone application to use my computer as a telephone without a VOIP service cause I already have comcast and a telephone number.
