Normally, Front Row displays the photos that are in your iPhoto library. I don't know if it can display others. Have you looked at iPhoto? It's pretty nice.

Drag all the photos to iPhoto - you will love it. For ripping DVDs, try Mac the Ripper or Handbrake.

Monolingual for removing languages you don't need. Garageband is another culprit, if you don't need it, that will save you 3gb.

Are you saying that iPhoto did not recognize the files? Do you know what format they are in? Try opening iPhoto, and then dragging just one of the photos to it.

OK, so your photos are in some odd format - can you try to figure out what it is? Try selecting one of them and pressing [Apple] I - that should bring up some info on the file.
Re monolingual, google is your friend.
monolingual - Google Search

What is the file extension of these photos? That is the part after the period. For example, the extension of SamplePhoto.jpg is jpg.

It's odd that it says they are jpegs. Perhaps you could pm me, and send one of the photos, so I can see if there is anything odd about it? If preview opens it, I am surprised that iPhoto will not.

You say Preview can open them, so save them as JPEG from Preview and import those into iPhoto. If you have a lot of images to convert use Automator.
