recently i noticed a few hundred of my photos (out of thousands) have stopped working properly in iPhoto. its as if the files are gone.

for instance:

file name - CIMG0791

there is a spot in my iPhoto library labeled CIMG0791, but instead of a thumbnail, there is a black box with a dotted line around it.

if i click "show in finder", nothing happens. if i search CIMG0791 in Spotlight, nothing comes up.

if the files are gone, so be it, but id also like to get the library straightened up. any easy way to clean this mess up or find my lost files?

i hope the description of the problem was adequate.
