Maybe it's because of the new Security Update. Who knows? Word 2004 has stopped working. I can boot Word, but if I try to "print," it hangs. I have to force quit the program.

I've de-installed MS Office 2004 using the Uninstall program, then tried re-installing using the original CD. However, the "Office Setup Assistant" quits. This was the message in the report:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCES (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xa38f5130

Any clue to what is happening and ... more importantly ... how I can fix it?

I spent 1 hour and 20 minutes on the phone yesterday with Microsoft Technical Support, and the tech person did everything she could think of to get the Installer to work.

Her conclusion: perhaps something screwy in the OS, or perhaps I need an updated driver for my HD.

We tried everything... shift booting, removing font folders and rebooting, creating a new User and trying to install.

The installer quits... The application when drag-installed quits...

Please ... doesn't anybody have any insight here?

No insights, the kind of memory problem indicated by the error you got is typically a serious hardware issue I believe. Do you have any kernel extensions installed? Did you recently upgrade your RAM? Do you have some funky utility like a themer for OS X?

AppleCare solved the problem on the phone. The solution? An "archive & install" of the OS.

btw, after I did that, Parallels had to be re-installed.
