Everytime I receive an email with an attachment it downloads to the desktop, even if it's just a word file. Is there a way to just view this attachment and not have it download? I'm a pc user prior and didn't have this occur with explorer...

Viewing a document inherently *requires* that it be downloaded - even on Windows.

I assume that Internet Explorer on Windows is just capable of displaying Word documents within the browser window, loading them locally into a cache, rather than into the default download directory (which, on the Mac, is your desktop), much the way Safari handles PDF documents.

Look into using the Mail program in /Applications if this bothers you.
