I'm planning the purchase of a 15" Macbook Pro in the next few weeks. I will bump it up to 4gb of ram, and am debating between the low end 2.2ghz model and the higher end 2.4ghz model. The difference in CPU speed is not that important to me, and I would upgrade the lower end model to the same HD, at 160gb 5400rpm. Therefore, aside from the slight difference in CPU speed, the only appreciable difference is the video card memory size.

The 2.2 version has 128mb of video ram, while the 2.4 version has 256mb of video ram. The computer will be used for ordinary purposes, with occasional use of Final Cut Pro and Motion. Will the extra video ram make any real world difference in Motion or Final Cut Pro? I am leaning toward the 2.2 model, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot in terms of video card ram.

Thanks for the insight!
Rob

The extra video RAM will make a pretty big difference, mainly with Motion, as it relies mainly on the video card for it's processing.
I gotta have more cowbell.

Final Cut Pro doesn't matter a whole lot, but Motion would love the extra RAM. That being said, you wouldn't be shooting yourself in the foot with the 2.2 model either. It should do just fine with Motion.
