Looking for a simple, one-shot utility to clone an OS-9.1 system disk to a larger sized drive. It will be a boot drive...I still use one old OS 9 beige machine to run some older but vital applications.

Is there an OS-9 equivalent to SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner

Simple...

Open your old hard drive in Finder and do a Select All (Command-A). Now drag those items to the new hard drive. You're done cloning the drive. You'll need to select the OS on the new drive as the startup system in the Startup Disk control panel.

Ah yes! The only potential problem is making sure the System Folder is "blessed". Rare, but really annoying when it happens.

However, in OS 9, all you have to do is double-click on an unblessed System Folder to bless it. Yeah, this is something I really miss about OS 9.

Original poster here: I considered the "Select All then drag to new drive " solution. Doesn't seem real feasible to do a Finder copy of an entire 8 Gig drive in one swoop like that . Would rather do it in manageable chunks < 2 Gb per increment . But there is also the issue if the " Invisible" files. Select All would likely grab them. But if doing the incremental method, how would you get the sneaky files and Desktop DB and other hidden directory files ?

I find it odd that a disk clone/copy utility was never a mainstream OS-9 app.....

You don't need to copy over Desktop DB. In fact, you shouldn't. That's part of the Finder's disk bookkeeping, and is automatically generated. Copying over the Desktop DB from another disk could cause problems.

Generally speaking, OS 9 doesn't make files invisible unless they're not too important. You usually don't miss much by ignoring them.

Ditto CharlesS, in fact one of the housekeeping chores when System 9 acted up was to rebuild the desktop, and with many utilities you could make the two desktop files visible and completely delete them. Let 'em go, you do not need to copy them.
Also, what is your concern about copying 2 gig increments? Select All, drag and drop!

Absolutely...drag and drop. There was never a utility because one was never needed. A Finder copy is all you need.
