When I take screenshots with the Grab utility included with Mac OS X, the screenshots always come out in .TIFF format. Is there anyway I can change the format permanently?
Thanks,
Mason

Why don't you use the following keyboard shortcuts?
⌘⇧3 – whole screen
⌘⇧4 – selected area
⌘⇧4 + spacebar – selected window
The default format for the screenshots is png. If you add the control key, the screenshot is sent to the clipboard.

I need to use Grab because it shows the mouse pointer in the screenshots.

I think this will do what you want, you have to punch in a command in terminal, but it does the job:
Taking Screenshots in Mac OS X - Mac Guides
Go down to the format section and follow the steps. that might only be for the keyboard shortcuts though.
Another option would be to do your grab command, then in Preview do "Save as" and choose your format. Not the most automated way, but does the job.

Thanks for finding that for me. I'm just going to use one of the recommended screenshot apps called SnapNDrag.
