my friend brings over .avi movies on a cd (truth be told, mostly old horror and foreign films); i play them on my dvd player.

today he brought a file that will not play.

it plays on my mac (vlc), says it is:FMP4

any idea on how to convert it to XVID so i can watch it on my tv??

thanx!

FMP4 is the fourcc code for ffmpeg's MPEG-4 output. You can use ffmpegx to reencode it as Xvid.

Either should work. There may be some minor quality/speed difference between them, but I don't know which is better.
