I use MacTheRipper to rip DVDs to my mac as VIDEO_TS and Roxio Toast 7 to burn the file to a DVD-R. This works perfectly for most movies, however some such as The Departed and Lucky # Slevin cause an error message to come up saying "The contents of this VIDEO_TS file cannot be compressed." Anybody know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It's been a while since I've done this, but I recall having to save it as a toast disk image first. When you burn the disk image to DVD it will compress to fit.

I just rip my dvds with mactheripper, then I use DVD2One to compress it. And of course you toast to burn the image. I've never had a problem. Try using DVD2One to make your disk image.

Sourbook, how do you save it as a toast disk image?

From the menu. File > Save as disk image. Once saved you can test the image with DVD Player as if it were a standard DVD. Then mount the image in Toast to burn. It should confirm the compression before writing.

IIRC, you'll get this message if you do a main feature-only rip and try to burn with Toast or Popcorn. These apps don't like feature-only Video_TS folders for some reason. Either do a full-disc rip and burn the main feature via Toast, or do a recompression of the main feature with DVD2OneX.
