Hello all,

I love the reminders feature of events in iCal, where you can set it up to choose how to notify you. Does anyone know if there is any way to use this with birthday from contacts I have put in my Address Book?

Thanks.

B Gallagher >> in the iCal preferences, look for an option that says "Show Birthdays Calendar"

This is a read only calendar, and the birthdays are populated from the birthday field for your contacts in Address Book. I believe it reminds you (alert message/sound) by default, but I could be mistaken about that part.

Nope, no alert for birthdays from the Address Book.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the request, but check for the option in the image in your ical prefs.

After that's checked, you can go to address book and add in birthdays to your contacts and that's all you have to do. If you don't see "Birthdays" as an option in your contacts in address book:

Go to address book
open the preferences
go to Template
from the drop down, select "birthday"
close the preferences

at that point you'll see birthdays in your contacts.

Yes, you'll see the birthdays, but there is no way to have an alert remind you of that birthday.

Exactly, I haven't found a way to do that, too. I'd like to be able to change individual birthdays of friends to get a warning for some, but not others.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Not possible with the Apple supplied tools, but this freeware does the trick:

Dates to iCal 1.0.3 - MacUpdate
