Ok...I had a confusing situation with my iTunes libraries part was on an external, part was on my macbooks HD...long story short, I consolidated the two, and moved the music folder onto a seperate external hard drive.

I changed the location of my music folder to be in the new drive, but now none of the songs/tv shows/movies are recognized. When I click on anything, i get the message "...could not be found, would you like to locate it?" I can find it right on the external, and then it starts playing it...Why is iTunes not recognizing any of this?

Any help would be greatlyyyyy appreciated, we are trying to move around externals in the house and give the old one to my mother, but I am stuck and don't want to get rid of the old one just yet if I still have this problem. Thanks a lot!!!

I figured it out. Nevermind...sorry.

However, if anyone is still reading this I'll use this opportunity to ask a new, related question:

this link gives instructions on how to move all of the itunes library files to the external drive, and it mentions that apple recommends leaving them on the local machine. Which option should I use? What are the differences?
Thanks

Edit: One last question...I just tried unplugging the drive, and opened itunes. The music location is back on my local harddrive (like I expected, since the external wasn't plugged in). After quitting iTunes, plugging in the external, and then opening iTunes, the music location still said Macintosh HD. I changed it to the location on the external and then it took 10 minutes "updating library"...my question is, am I going to have to change this everytime I open up iTunes? Or is there some way to make it switch?
