for the past several days whenever i go to my Excite home page a recording of a Pres Bush speech begins playing...and it doesn't stop til i leave the page.
Granted, this seems like an excite problem instead of a Safari problem. But can anyone explain HOW such a thing can happen? I can't think of any software installations that might coincide with the onset of the problem. I've closed and re-opened safari. I've restarted the computer. And I've emptied the cache in Safari.
Any suggestions?

I would try Pithelmet or SafariBlock - they will allow you to block Flash content in Safari.

thanks.

i might have solved it: although i had scrolled thru the page earlier looking for clues and found none, today i noticed new audio playing and scrolled down to find a video link open, that associated with the audio. I edited my home page to open without that video link, and on at least one restart neither the audio nor the vid has opened. I hope this solves it, and i mention this in case anyone else has the same problem.

i've had excite as my home page for years and have it customized to my satisfaction so simply abandoning it wasn't an attractive alternative.
