i been a mac user for 3 years and i think they are the best machines in the world hands down feet tied.
however. recently i obtained a imac from a friend and decided to format the hard drive thinking i can just reinstall tiger onto it with the install dvd i have with my i book.

now.... after formatting the imac i put the ibook install dvd in and held down C and on it went to boot up until it says to me that this software cannot be installed on this computer.!!!
im about to rip all my hair out i have no idea what is going on.. hehehe

That's your problem right there.

You'll need to get the Install disks for the iMac G5 from your friend - or order a replacement from Apple (they can be had for a shipping and handling fee).

PROBLEM #2.
after a painful 3 weeks with apple inc. Aus. i finally got my hands on a tiger osx install <not original install dvd but the one from apple store> and went ahead and installed it. everything was working great for a few hours then i performed a mac update on the machine. afterwards it reset and the system could not boot up. i think i have tried everything i can. atm i have erased everything through disk utility and tried re installing the software. only it comes up with installation error. what could be wrong with this system. it was running fine when the first reinstall went ahead.

any suggestions????

Have you tried using the Erase and Install option from the Tiger DVD?

You might have a harddrive problem, so make sure you check the harddrive from the installer (in the tools menu).
