I prefer to use a mail client because it just have more features and options. Basically mail softwares are more customizable than webmails especially the free webmails. I like using Thunderbird.

Client at home and work, webmail when I'm away from my Mac.

Webmail interfaces are too limiting and slow for my tastes: e.g. GMail can't open more than one message at a time; keyboard shortcuts are either non-existent or non-standard/designed for Windows users; attachments can't be made by drag and drop; there is no interaction with Address Book and other OS X software; OWA doesn't work properly unless you are using IE on a Windows XP PC and is truly the ugliest interface ever to have existed; you have to launch a browser to use them; etc.

The only reason I can think of for using a webmail interface in preference to a client is if the account is POP, as keeping your messages and message status in synch is a nightmare otherwise.

I use webmail for unimportant accounts. Otherwise, I use a local client and check it using webmail when I'm away from my G5.

I use both. Mail for important stuff, about half a dozen different webmail accounts for everything else.

Have you tried this? httpmail plugin 1.49 - MacUpdate

On topic: I use a mail application (Entourage). I avoid webmail when I can, unless I'm away from my computer. I prefer the stand-alone apps because they offer local storage and more features. And, in Entourage's case, an integrated calendar, note pad, and task list.

Mac Mail for all of them, dot mac and gmail included, on the desktop machine. Several of my clients block pop, imap and smtp ports, so webmail on the road.

Yes, there is.
I've used it, but I never got any email through it.

I believe that's what my brother does. He has the paid Yahoo mail version which allows you to use a mail client and of course the standard webmail interface, so at home he has the convenience of using a mail client with all it's extra benefits and when he's away from home he can just log on from any computer.

My email server also has a webmail feature but it's so basic that even yahoo and hotmail are better. It's definitely not made for daily use.
