I'm running Office 2004 on a new MacBook Pro (2 GB RAM) and there is a noticeable delay or sluggishness when typing in Office apps like Entourage.

Is this because Office 2004 is running under Rosetta? I thought there would be no real performance problems on new Intel Mac.

spell check as you type turned off? If not - try that.

Hmm, good suggestion. Sadly, didn't have much of an effect.

Delayed input of typed characters in an MS Office app? Rosetta really does know how to emulate a PPC Mac then

Did you also turn off Grammar checking?

I think I discovered the culprit: Safari 3 beta.

I noticed that scrolling through Safari's bookmarks was slow; the highlight color couldn't keep up with my cursor. And window redrawing in the Finder and certain apps was jerky.

So, I uninstalled the Safari beta and all seems to be working faster.

I've never had delay problems in Entourage, just the other apps, especially Word.

Word is horrible until you switch off active grammar check, which is on by default for some completely unfathomable reason.

****ing Microsoft.

How often does Entourage do a Send and Receive?

Also have you got a POP3 account with a large amount of emails left on the server?

I've seen this happen on clients machines and once we changed the Send and Receive to 15mins it was fine and on the other machine removed a load of messages stored on the server it stopped hanging within Entourage.

IMAP accounts don't appear to cause the same problem.

Both of these machine were Intel based.
