Hi there,
I am using a new 17" 2.4GHz MacBook Pro with 2Gb of memory and running 10.4.10.
I am having a problem with fonts in Mail when I try to send new mail. I am not able to change to a different font. I am not able to 'view' selected fonts other than the 'Helvetica' font. When I select 'Book Antiqua' or 'Bookman Old Style' or any other font for that matter - they will not show in view nor will they change from 'Helvetica.'
In fact 'Helvetica' seems to be the only font I can use .....!
I have checked in my 2 other user accounts and everything seems to be OK ...
I cannot even install the above fonts - they seem to have disappeared from the Font Book ..
The problem is only in Mail and is not related to Microsoft Office. This problem has only just occurred - everything has been fine until this morning! In fact I have never experienced this sort of problem in over 8 years of Mac use.
Can anyone shine a light on this and should I be removing a few .plist files from the appropriate Libraries to 'fix' it?
As always, any help is greatfully received!
thanks

Have you installed Safari 3 Beta?

I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I installed the beta, it ended up causing havoc with Mail.

When I un-installed everything was back to normal.

Also, have you ensured that your messages (via preferences) are set to go out in Rich Text?

Hi Naplander,
I'm running Safari 2.0.4 and yes, my messages are set to go out in Rich Text.

Problem now solved!
I opened the Font Book and saw in the left hand 'Collection' column that 'User' was not enabled and was 'off' ..!
Double clicked on 'User' to re-enable - and all fonts reappeared ..
I have no idea how Disable "User" was enabled - I must have clicked on it by mistake ........
In future, I'll try to be a little more observant!!
Thanks again for the help Naplander.
