You don't need any virus software for your Mac, if you want to turn on a firewall go to System Prefs > Sharing > Firewall and turn it on.

Ditto above, there are no Mac viruses. You can run anti-virus software that protect your Windows buddies from Microsoft Office exploits. The Mac theoretically can transfer those from an infected Windows user to another Windows user. But this is really an issue for them to worry about. Turn your OS X firewall on, it is harmless. If you aren't running any web services it won't really do anything. Are you connecting directly to the net with a public IP address or are you behind an NAT router?

The only time you need anti-virus software is if you regularly exchange documents and spreadsheets with Windows users. In that case, you need to scan the docs as you receive them or send them back, because you might inadvertently be forwarding a virus. The viruses will not do anything to the Mac, you simply want to avoid infecting Windows users.

Of course, the Windows users at the other end should notice an incoming virus, provided they're keeping their virus definitions up-to-date.

I use the Mac OS firewall and Clam antivirus. I am also behind a router. I also have Little Snitch to notify me of any strange outgoing communication.
