Hey All! So I'm about to start college here in the next month and, although one of the reasons I bought a mac instead of another is because it doesn't get as many viruses. However, in order to get on my University's network you HAVE to have anti virus software installed. I've researched a bit on my own about the various anti virus software programs for macs (norton, integro) and it seems that either they work really well or will completely shut down your system. What anti virus software have you guys tried and worked well?? Thanks for any imput

I've heard good things about this one: ClamXav 1.0.8 - MacUpdate

Also, I wonder how your university would verify you having antivirus installed.

ClamXav sucks. If you look try it out you'll notice it's slow as molasses at scanning files. It'd be faster to re-install OS X every time you want to do a virus scan than it would be to use ClamXav. It's terribly, terribly slow.

Macs don't get ANY viruses. But it is possible that your school will require an antivirus package be installed on every computer connected to their network-mine does. In that case, they'll probably provide it free of charge. Otherwise, don't worry about it.
